To create the best impression when people visit your home, make sure your house is clean and tidy. Even if you cannot afford to decorate, scrubbing and tidying costs nothing but time. Your kitchen and bathroom should sparkle.

Having a home that looks and smells clean can make all of the difference. If you have mobility issues, perhaps you could factor in a cleaning service into the cost of moving. Or call in family and friends to help.

A house that smells of fresh coffee or baking bread is a cliche, but a good one! Although you are not trying to sell your home, you are still wanting to create a good impression.

If you have pets, make sure their bowls, bedding, etc. are clean and the house isn’t covered in pet hairs! Difficult sometimes, but worth it. 🙂

Sometimes a large tub of magnolia paint can cover a multitude of sins! It’s neutral and makes the house smell nice after it’s used.

You will most probably be exchanging flooring as well, so it’s important to make sure it’s clean and in good condition. If not, please make sure you mention this in your exchange listing.

Any outside space should also be tidy. Never underestimate the value of kerb appeal. You don’t want prospective exchange partners to turn tail before they’ve even stepped inside your home!
